Operations Log - entry 5
by Uni Acala

Planning the raid with Elchiss – figuring out a date/time. Elchiss will fight with us, along with 5 others. They will create the distraction.

Group discusses abilities for use during battle so everyone is familiar with the battle plan. Distraction is planned for front of church, while group sneaks in a back alley behind the church.

Unit stealths into the alley to determine the guard patrol pattern. It goes down each of the alleys alongside the church, ending at the junction point for 10 minutes. Once they begin patrolling, we have a 5 minute window to enter the back of the church. Ergot conjures 4 sprites to help. Ergot’s pelican gives the signal to create the distraction. 2 guards came out of the abandoned house to investigate, and join the 3 on patrol. The group all dip inside the back entrance that Cank told us about, and find themselves in a smallish closet. Z’el cats Light on a stone to provide visibility. The interior of the church is in disrepair, with crumbling stone walls and what appears to be decorative fixtures stripped of anything valuable.

There are 5 stones embedded in the walls that appear to stand out from the rest of the church. Uni stays on watch while the rest of the group touches the stones simultaneously. They feel cold but nothing happens. Z’el searches a pile of rags, finding various things. A cranium rat also darts out from the pile. Z’el is bitten trying to grasp after it. We try pushing the stone, and then singing to it. Punching it and casting a spell on it also have no effect. The group leaves the church, back out the hole we entered from.

"Halt!” is heard as soon as Alek leaves the church. Some of the guards on patrol have seen him. 2 guards and a mage are down the alley besides the abandoned house that the guards are housed in. Uni initiates with a Burning Hands attack, followed by Annah’s longbow and Z’el’s dive bomb attack. Alek casts Firebolt with a light crossbow chaser, while Ergot tells the sprites to attack. He then flies 30 ft. up above the fray. Ergot sees the remaining guards dealing with those that caused the distraction, then casts Firebolt from on high. We hear shouting from the guardhouse, and 4 guards run out. Elchiss makes a hasty retreat. Uni knocks two of them out at once, and runs after Elchiss. The rest of the group follows. We decide to go back to base to come up with a new plan. Elchiss peels off before that to collect the wagon crew.

Up next: Talk to Cruigh? Lari (githzerai)? Mahvor?

Elchiss (elf of the SIgn of One faction), trying to sneak into the church. Haven’t met yet, but is planning a raid within the week. We go to talk with her.

Cruigh’s house in Lady’s Ward, so we go to see Elchiss first.

At Hall of Speakers. Scribes outside offering services. Meeting rooms available for rent. Speakers on all topics. Z’el shouts out for Elchiss, the crowd stops to look. Someone with an official badge stops by and asks if he can help us. Guides us to Elchiss’ office. Various attempts to elicit information are unsuccessful. Alek uses a persuasive voice to attempt to get her to meet us at the Styx Oarsmen. Doesn’t work. Z’el casts Detect Thoughts – Elchiss is thinking: “I need to get them out of my office, and warn Mhavor.”  (in charge of Way of One)

Z’el name drops Mhavor, and Elchiss gets nervous. She says “Not here. If you know him, you know how to get in touch with him.” She is going to meet him tonight. Thinks they may need to advance their schedule because we are going in before them. Mhavor’s house is in the Clerk’s Ward. He is retired.

Annah, Alek, and Uni stealthily listen outside Mahvor’s house, while Ergot’s pelican and Z’el listen from above. Elchiss approaches. Mahvor answers, and brings Elchiss inside. Elchiss recaps the earlier conversation to Mahvor. She recommends sending the half-elf assassin Gremith Mi to “take care of us”. Listening to the meeting, the Signers believe there is a dead god in the church. The leader of the Will of One (water Genasi named Prissine) thinks they should confront and bring back the dead god- Aoskar. Mahvor thinks it’s too dangerous – wants to investigate more, or stop Prissine from getting access.

Someone else was asking at the Hall of Records about the church, named Lari.

Everyone leaves except for Mahvor and a messenger. Z’el breaks into the house as Mahvor hands a message over. Mahvor is scared, and tried denying he planned for Gremith to kill us. Alek and Ergot manage to convince Mahvor that we should be allied. New message sent out to Elchiss “Unexpected allies, please visit my home again to discuss new plans.” Elchiss shows up, and we discuss what has been reconned so far.

We plan to have their group create a distraction, and our group will utilize that. We’ll be going through the back entrance, that we haven’t told Elchiss about yet.

Battle in the alley way over (found some $, pink powder, ring, and a diary), the group searches for a nearby inn to rest up inside. Green Mill tavern close by, has elvish motif. Or Black Sails, a converted ship made into a tavern.

Ed finishes studying the diary found on the corpse of his new zombie Fauntleroy, but finds nothing of interest. Groups rests up, then goes back to the guardhouse. Uni stealths close to the guards, finds 3 outside. Ergot drops a earth elemental, which proceeds to destroy the outer wall of the guardhouse.

At guardhouse in morning to deliver breakfast, the group takes advantage of a distracted Ghear (who is dealing with the aftermath). They take the food directly into the abandoned house where the guards are now quartered. 18 guards, mostly fighter types. Recon achieved, the group heads back to HQ to rest up after a long evening leading to morning.

At HQ, Ergot gives Ed a scroll to learn. They also work on job postings for hirelings.

Next, headed to Maruskul’s poison shop. Ergot is selling poison from his Staff of the Adder for store credit. Still too pricey to buy poison to take out all guards.

Phol gave us some leads:

  • Elchiss at Hall of Speakers (Signer HQ)
  • Hall of Information – publicly accessible knowledge

At Hall of Records in Clerk’s Ward. Waiting in line. Finally make it up, Ergot greases the wheel to make things happen. Clerk comes back with owner Cruigh Manathas, owned for many years. Was inherited. Gives Cruigh’s address. Ed has heard of him – wealthy landowner, been buying up land and demolishing buildings to build something, likes talking (been telling stories about disappearances). Athar blockading the church has been holding up construction.

Ubiquitous Wayfarer – 3 story tavern/inn. Believed to be a dozen portals in it. Known portal – Lady’s Ward and ?. Owner is Riaen. Hulester inside. Wants to talk with Riaen, offered to give us info if we could introduce them. Z’el is performing a song to introduce Hulester and Riaen. Ergot and Z’el spell Riaen at the bar so she can talk. They chat, then she goes back to the bar. He is happy. Has knowledge of Ghear, has 20 guards with him in guardhouse next to church. H was working w/ Athar, folks disappeared after going in church. Workmen sent to demolish the church, never seen from again. Rillern Poststaff – she convinced head of factions (15 of them, like local govt) – Factal Terrance (Godless, the Lost). Convinced him about ?.

Riddle in tavern – 5 unit and 3 unit, want 4 units. Pour form 5 into 3, have 2 left over. Empty 3, put 2 in there. Fill the 5, pour from it into 3 until it’s full (1 unit worth), leaving 4 in the 5 unit container.

Phol (from the neighborhood, Freeleague). Helped him solve riddle. Says that church is old, but recently a lot of activity. Athar trying to keep everyone out. Signers are trying to get in. A small group was overheard talking about a plan to sneak in, past that Athars. Elchiss (elven) was part of the group. Might find her at Signers HQ (Hall of Speakers).

Rhiann mentions delivering food to the guards at the church, the group offers to take it over for her. Several baskets to take over (bread, cheese, cured meats). 24 or thereabouts. Church on Arbor road, near the corner. One wall partially demolished. 2 guards out front. Empty lot next door. Talk to guards to deliver food, they say to take next door.

Church is not for any active religion. Not worshipped in centuries, possibly millennia. Go next door, pretty dark. Knock, and door opens up. Athar soldiers grab baskets, we ask for a signature from Ghear. Young man (late 20s) opens the door, dressed as a priest of the Great Unknown (part of Athars?). Group plans to poison the next food shipment. Go to an apothecary named Bones of the Night. High Ward.

On the way – see a squad of the Harmonium patrolling (6 of them). Hear nonsensical shouting in Common from a group ahead. “Death, destruction, and the end of all times”. Man has an odd looking staff, and dressed in tattered leather strips. Shouting about the church, and what doom will come from it. Knows a back way in, there are 3 guards but they don’t bother him. Says that if we pretend to be him and pretend to not go inside, they won’t bother. Kank is the guy’s name. Hole in the wall we can crawl through.

At shop. Maruskul – raspy voice. Sells the group some poison – Torpor. Too expensive though, so group decides to try Kank’s Hole first. On way down the alley towards the church, not close to the church yet, Uni notices groups with weapons drawn in multiple alleyways. Ed casts a spell of Darkness in the street to hide the group’s doings.

Radagast Street Irregulars Operations Log - Entry 1
by Annah-of-the-Shadows

(Starting a new operations log, after the last one was "accidentally" destroyed. Trying to seem respectable-like.)

A messenger came to our headquarters, in the Hive Ward, with a note from someone named C.M. interested in hiring us. Berk messenger tried to pick Uni's pocket!

We went to meet this C.M. at their case in the Clerk's Ward. We were a bit peery but she turned out to be a nervous, bookish human named Charlott. Seemed harmless enough. She promised us jink if we can find out, within a week, the dark of some conflict brewing between The Lost and the Signers. She suggested we talk to a basher named Hulester at the Ubiquitous Wayfarer in the Lower Ward.
